A dual memoir about how two women who broke through the traditional conventions of their times to become master athletes, written by Celeste Callahan and Dottie Dorion, with Jane E. Hunt (McFarland Publishers). Beyond Triathlon shares their personal and physical growth through the sport as they individually entered the challenging environment and mastered it with wins, adding the Ironman Triathlon and The Race Across America to their challenges.
Inspiration and Action
Dottie Dorion and Celeste Callahan, were early successful competitors in triathlon in master classifications and went on to make major contributions to the growth of the sport for women. What makes their stories remarkable is how they, and others, broke through women’s traditional conventions of their times before Title IX in the U.S. was enacted. They were empowerment to provide service to women, and to their sport through inspiration, education, mentoring, partnerships, memberships, committee appointments, philanthropy and volunteerism to this very day.
